Vins Corses d'exception

It is, of course, difficult to be exhaustive, given how rich and varied Corsica’s wine production is. Compiling a list is always a challenging task, and we are certain that we cannot present here all the wines from the Ajaccio region that deserve to be included. In this series of articles, we invite you to discover, for each region, wines that have caught our attention—whether for the work that went into them, an innovative and terroir-focused approach, the superior quality of a vintage, the originality of a wine that stands out from the norm, a winemaker with an unconventional background, or the reputation of a vineyard that has become a must-visit.

3 Prestigious Vineyards in the Ajaccio Region

The Ajaccio region produces a fine selection of red and rosé wines, characterized by a very sunny terroir of seaside hillsides with a centuries-old winemaking tradition. This region, which offers ideal growing conditions, is designated under the specific AOC Ajaccio appellation. Ajaccio wines are often characterized by the distinct notes of the Sciaccarello grape variety, which imparts a fruity and mineral flavor and a deep color to the wines. They pair perfectly with traditional island dishes, such as cold cuts and cheeses, lamb, or seafood.

. Domaine Comte Peraldi

Located in the hills above Ajaccio in Mezzavia, this estate—founded by Louis de Poix, co-founder of the Ajaccio AOC—is, above all, the story of a family that has been cultivating and showcasing this estate for three generations. A remarkable 50-hectare estate cultivated with passion using organic and sustainable farming methods, where Corsica’s iconic grape varieties are brought to their fullest potential to produce wines that have become must-haves. Granitic soil and exceptional sunshine create a remarkable terroir nestled between the sea and the mountains. The island’s Sciaccarello, Vermentino, and Nielluccio vines, combined with meticulous pruning and winemaking, yield subtle yet robust wines that are fragrant and well-balanced.
Among the must-try vintages: the Cuvée du Cardinal, the Cuvée Clémence, and the Domaine Comte Peraldi red and rosé.

. Le Clos d’Alzeto

Located north of Ajaccio in Sari-d’Orcino, this vineyard was established in 1800 by the Albertini family and has been in operation for five generations, making it one of the oldest in Corsica. Today, the vineyard spans 50 hectares, and its elevation of up to 500 meters above sea level makes it the highest in Corsica. This remarkable location offers all the characteristics of a Mediterranean climate, combined with the unique qualities of a hillside terroir. The estate’s wide variety of plots allows for unique blends that define the distinctiveness and diversity of the wines produced with passion and expertise. Le Clos produces generous, subtle, and powerful vintages with mineral and fruity flavors that have become staples at the finest restaurants.
The Alzeto Frescu or Prestige, in red and white, will find their rightful place in your cellar.

. Le Domaine de Pratavone

This family-owned estate, located in the Taravu Valley, is nestled in the heart of the maquis and blessed with the maritime influences of the Gulf of Ajaccio. For several generations, the estate has passionately cultivated typical Corsican grape varieties such as Sciaccarellu, which lends finesse and elegance to its wines. The estate’s reds stand out for their aromas of red fruit and spices, while the whites and rosés captivate with their freshness and minerality. Isabelle Courrèges is committed to sustainable, environmentally friendly viticulture, and on its 50 hectares of granite-rich land, Domaine de Pratavone showcases an exceptional terroir, producing wines that are both authentic and refined—perfect for pairing with Corsican cuisine.

Ajaccio is a region that offers both stunning landscapes and a rich cultural and historical heritage. Gastronomy naturally plays a prominent role here. And wine is undoubtedly one of the hallmarks of this centuries-old history, reflecting the passing down of expertise and a deep love for this land—this island at the heart of the Mediterranean.
